There’s a youth group for everyone here at Or Chadash. Our older teenagers are part of our senior youth group known as CORY (Congregation Or Chadash Youth). CORY is affiliated with the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY.)
Our kids in 4th through 7th grade are part of Junior CORY and do a lot of fun social activities.
Our youngest kids, in grades PreK-3 are part of Kiddish Kids and do craft projects, fun trips, and social action projects together.
CORY – Congregation Or Chadash Youth
CORY is a very friendly group of Jewish teens in our congregation. We get together at least once a month to participate in community service and fun teen activities. Some of these events are bowling, ice skating, raking leaves, and making sandwiches for the homeless. At the CORY spring sleepover, we hold elections for the CORY board positions. We also help with the Hanukah Party by running some of the games that bring the entire congregation together to celebrate Hanukah. The Purim Party is run by CORY. We run the games and supply all the prizes that the children win.
The members of CORY are more than just Jewish acquaintances; we are a strong group of individuals that works together to help the community and have fun at the same time. With all of the events we learn to trust and respect one another. We hope ALL of those in 8th grade and older who are interested in having fun will join us.
The youth arm of the Union for Reform Judaism, NFTY is devoted to providing interactive Jewish experiences for high school aged youth across the United States and Canada. NFTY, the North American Federation of Temple Youth, is comprised of over 450 Temple Youth Groups (TYGs) and organized into 21 Regions.
The overall purpose of NFTY is to create today the Reform congregants of tomorrow. NFTY strives to do this by instilling Jewish identity, fostering commitment to the ideals and values of Reform Judaism, and increasing synagogue participation in high school youth. These purposes are pursued within a framework that emphasizes the values of Jewish Literacy, Spiritual Exploration, Social Action, Leadership Development and Jewish Community.
Junior CORY
JR CORY (Congregation Or Chadash Youth) is our synagogue’s youth group for those in 4th through 7th grades. We hold several fun activities each year. Some past activities include bowling, ice skating, river rafting, laser tag, hiking, roller skating, and we completed a challenge course!
What will we do next? It’s up to you! All 4th – 7th graders are welcome to participate in any JR CORY events and we set our schedule based on what the group would like to do! Some of the ideas already suggested for this year include snow tubing and a “lock in” overnight at Or Chadash.
There is no formal membership for JR CORY – so all 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th graders are welcome to join us on our next adventure!
Kiddush Kids
Kiddush Kids is our Jewish youth group for children in Pre-K through 3rd grades. Through crafts, stories, games, field trips and service projects, our congregation’s youngest members will learn about Jewish values and Jewish holidays while starting and deepening friendships. The group’s members will enter the first phase of their development of their Jewish identity and religious school peer groups. For more information and a schedule of our upcoming events, contact the orchadashadmin@gmail.com.
