Gift of Life
This year we held a cheek swab drive on Yom Kippur. Gift of Life is a bone marrow and blood stem cell registry. They faciliate transplants for children and adults suffering from life-threatening illnesses, including leukemia and lymphoma.
Relay for Life
Congregation Or Chadash first particpated in the Damascus Relay for Life in 2008. For the past few years, our team has raised over $5000 to help fight cancer. Let's do it again this year!
What is Relay for Life?
Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. In honor of those who battle cancer 24 hours a day, team members typically take turns walking the track throughout the day and night. For those not walking, there is around-the-clock action to keep everyone busy. From entertainment, food, and games, to touching ceremonies and stories of inspiration, there is something for everyone at Relay for Life. It’s an event like no other.
Congregation Or Chadash participates in Montgomery County's Adopt-A-Road program. We've adopted Kings Valley Road, the road on which our building is located.
Each month, the children of one religious school class, along with their parents, pick up litter along the road. We enjoy seeing the horses on the farm down the street and have often been thanked by neighbors as we don our orange vests and clean up the trash.
Congregation Or Chadash collects food on the last Sunday of each month, as well as on Yom Kippur, to give to Damascus HELP.
